APSA is pleased to announce three calls for proposals for its 2026 teaching and learning symposia. APSA’s Teaching & Learning Symposia provide a unique opportunity for faculty with similar teaching interests to present on timely substantive issues in the field, share best practices, and develop new teaching resources.
- Present your teaching practices and emerging research in a workshop format.
- Collaborate with a small cohort of similarly interested political science educators.
- Showcase your teaching tools and emerging research with the wider discipline.
- Virtual and In-Person Opportunities!
1) Teaching Political Science in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence | Virtual | June 22-26, 2026
Political science instructors, whether they like it or not, must consider both the challenge and opportunity brought about by the ubiquity of GAI. This symposium seeks to bring together a small cohort of political science scholar-educators to workshop, co-create, and discuss teaching resources, techniques, and strategies for teaching politics in a world where students’ options for reading, writing, and information generally are rapidly changing.
- Application Deadline: Sunday, April 5, 2026 | Symposium Dates: June 22-26, 2026
- Co-Facilitators: Simon Lightfoot (University of Leeds) and Charley Turner (California State University, Chico)
- In Partnership with the Political Studies Association (PSA) Teaching & Learning Network
- Start your application here.
2) Teaching Sports and Politics | Virtual | June 11-18, 2026
Sports offer a unique experience and connection for students to learn about contemporary topics in policy, administrative, and political decision-making. Research suggests that there is a connection between civic pride associated with government connection and the presence and success of athletics. This symposium is geared towards instructors of political science, public administration, and related fields who want to teach about the intersection between sports and politics.
- Application Deadline: Sunday, April 5, 2026 | Symposium Dates: June 11-18, 2026
- Co-Facilitators: Darrell Lovel (West Texas A&M University) and Andrea Benjamin (University of Oklahoma)
- Start your application here.
3) Civic Education and America’s 250th| In-Person | APSA Headquarters in Washington, DC | June 25-27, 2026
America’s 250th offers a special opportunity to intensify our commitment to preparing students to be engaged democratic community members. Educators can ensure that students receive civics instruction grounded in American history, founding principles, and a democratic vision for America’s future. At the same time, the country is facing unprecedented challenges and uncertainty that will impact generations to come. Civic educators have the potential to elevate the prospects for democratic life and governance while working to overcome the difficulties we are facing at this historic juncture. To this end, this symposium brings together a small cohort of civic education teachers and scholars to workshop, co-create, and discuss instructional techniques and strategies, curricular interventions, and resources.
- Application Deadline: Sunday, April 5, 2026 | Symposium Dates: June 25 – 27, 2026
- Co-Facilitators: John Ishiyama (University of North Texas) and Diana Owen (Georgetown University)
