APSA Statement Condemning Attack at Sharif University of Technology

The American Political Science Association condemns the recent attack against and detention of students at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran. Students were participating in a protest related to the recent death of Mahsa Amini and were violently attacked by security forces. We stand with the students and faculty exercising their universal human rights to freedom of opinion and expression, and to peaceful assembly and association (Articles 19 and 20 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights). In keeping with the values of academic freedom and freedom of inquiry, we express our support for those who study, teach, and research in the country, and to all APSA members with personal and professional connections to the country.
