Short Course: How to Do Policy Relevant Social Science Research

How to Do Policy Relevant Social Science Research

Oriana Mastro
Full Day, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Los Angeles Convention Center, 501A

More and more universities value policy-relevant social science research – it is a skill set more useful for undergraduates, increases the impact and visibility of research and opens up new grant opportunities. However traditional political science programs do not provide training in this respect. This course will provide training in policy memo writing, briefing and op-ed writing in addition to best practices in gaining access, conducting advocacy, and utilizing these skills in the classroom. The course will consist of both lectures and workshop activities that will help students transform their research into policy-relevant products.
