Meet 2024 RBSI Scholar, Emma Oquendo, University of Nebraska, Lincoln

Emma Oquendo, University of Nebraska, Lincoln

Emma Oquendo is a Junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a psychology major, with minors in both political science and criminal justice. She has been a Dean’s List recipient, as well as a Buffet Scholarship recipient each semester while attending UNL. Emma’s studies are deeply influenced by both her racial and ethnic background, as well as an interest in the intertwining of her areas of study and how they relate to underrepresentation. Her primary interest when it comes to research and political science revolves around how members of underrepresented groups are affected psychologically, and in turn, how this affects their interactions with the political system. For this reason, Emma hopes that this experience will better prepare her as a scholar who both produces and consumes research, as well as gain a better understanding of what graduate school would look like. Emma is considering pursuing a master’s degree relating to her current areas of study, although is undecided on a specific degree.
