Sven Steinmo was an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Colorado. Previously he held the Chair in Public Policy and Political Economy at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, and was Robert Schuman Research Professor at the Schuman Center for Advanced Study.
“I have been lucky to have lived in several countries over my lifetime. I honestly believe that every one of those experiences, whether in Japan, Norway, Sweden, Britain, or Italy, has helped me better understand other societies, and also my own country, the United States. In many ways it was living abroad that made me want to study politics in the first place.” – Sven Steinmo in article by Jeffrey Nonnemacher
Over the past several years Steinmo received numerous awards for both his teaching and his writing including the European Research Council, “Advanced Researcher Frontier Grant, the Gunnar Myrdal Award for the Best Book in Evolutionary Political Economy,” awarded by the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy. He also received the “Riker Award for the Best Book in Political Economy,” and the “Gabriel Almond Award for the Best Dissertation in Comparative Politics” from the American Political Science Association.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear colleague, Professor Sven Steinmo. This is a major loss for our department, the university, and the discipline of political science.” – CU Political Science Department
