Call for Applications: Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grant for Early Career Scholars

The APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grant supports the advancement of research goals and professional development of early career political science scholars from historically underrepresented backgrounds and minoritized groups. This application cycle, the grant will award scholars whose research areas focus on one of the following target research areas. Apply Now!

Target Research Areas:

  • race, ethnicity and politics
  • racial and social justice
  • systemic racism, inequality and inequity
  • gender, sexuality and politics
  • LGBTQ+ politics
  • accessibility politics

Qualitative, quantitative, interpretive, or mixed methodological approaches are welcome.

Award Conditions and Details

Grants will range between $2000 – $2500. Funds can be used to support: access to data or archival records, paying undergraduate or graduate student research assistants, purchasing statistical software to facilitate research; costs associated with manuscript preparation, costs associated with travel for fieldwork or research site visits, and professional development activities (such skills or methods training acquisition).

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must in the early career stage. For the purposes of this grant, an early career individual is defined as an individual who has earned a PhD in political science no more than six years ago and, who can be described as pre-tenure, contingent faculty, a post-doctoral fellow, or a practitioner political science who works outside of the academic sector.

Additionally, applicants must be a member of one or more of the following historically underrepresented or minoritized racial or ethnic groups: African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latinos/as, American Indians or Alaska natives, and Native Hawaiians. Or, applicants must be a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
