Kyle Endres completed his PhD in Government at the University of Texas at Austin and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Duke University. Kyle researches political campaigns, participation, and political behavior, with a focus on how electoral campaigns and interest groups exploit competing issue, partisan, and racial predispositions to influence who participates in politics (and how they participate). Using a unique combination of data sources that link voter files, proprietary campaign records, original surveys, and field experiments, Kyle’s research investigates how targeted policy information drives some individuals away from electoral politics, while motivating non-electoral engagement such as political consumerism. He also has several research projects on survey methodology and design. His research has been published (or is forthcoming) in the Journal of Politics, the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion & Parties, American Politics Research, Research & Politics, PS: Political Science & Politics, and The Forum. Kyle is thankful for the First-Generation Scholar Travel Reimbursement Grant that helped offset the cost of attending the 2019 APSA Annual Meeting, where he presented “Elite Messaging and Partisan Consumerism: An Evaluation of Trump’s Tweets and Polarization of Corporate Brand Images.”
About the APSA First Generation Scholar in the Profession Travel Reimbursement Grant
In 2015, the APSA Executive Council approved a new standing Committee on First Generation Higher Education Scholars in the Profession, parallel to the existing APSA status committees. The goal is to bring focused attention to the ways in which class, economic inequality, and mobility can affect political scientists’ ability to thrive educationally and professionally, perhaps throughout their careers. The APSA Committee on the Status of First Generation Scholars matched contributions that were made to the APSA Annual Fund during one week in September 2019 to support the professional development support of first gen scholars in the profession.
