Support First Generation Scholars in the Profession

The APSA Committee on the Status of First-Generation Scholars in the profession is offering $250 travel and accessibility grants to support scholars that attended the 2021 APSA Annual Meeting. The Committee adopts as a broad definition for First Generation Scholars including:

  • Scholars who have parents who have attained neither a bachelor’s nor an associate’s degree and/or
  • International scholars who are the first generation to study and/or teach at the college or university level in the United States

Donations made to the APSA Annual Fund from November 1 to November 5, 2021 will be matched by the Committee up to $2000 to support these grants. The APSA Annual Fund provides supplemental support to critical APSA programs. To make a contribution, be sure to login to your MyAPSA member profile and visit the APSA donation page. The APSA Annual Fund is the first fund on the list. Enter the amount that you would like to contribute and then click on the green “Donate Now” button to submit your contribution.

Your generosity, and that of many other APSA members and friends, enables us to make additional resources available to the political science community. If you use social media, please post about your donation and like and share our posts on TwitterFacebook and LinkedIn. By helping us reach new audiences, you spread the word about how we are able to help scholars and students benefit from valuable professional opportunities they might not have otherwise.

Applications for the 2021 First Generation Scholar Travel and Accessibility Grant are due Friday, November 5, 2021. To learn more about the APSA Committee on the Status of First Generation Scholars, please visit apsanet.org/firstgenerationstatus.
