Apply for the virtual APSA Women’s Research Mentoring Workshop | Deadline: March 16th

The APSA Women’s Research Mentoring Workshop will be held virtually in late Spring 2021. The workshop is open to junior scholars in all subfields of political science who identify as women, non-binary or genderqueer and received a Ph.D. in the last 5 years. The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to network and receive focused expert feedback on research from peers and mentors in their field.

The workshop will consist of a 2-day virtual program. Participants will be arranged into small groups and assigned to senior women mentors in their research area. Each attendee will circulate a working research paper or similar product (e.g., book chapter, grant proposal) to group members prior to the workshop, and will receive at least one hour of feedback from their working group. There will also be sessions on career development facilitated by senior scholars, such as: publishing, developing a tenure case, writing grant proposals, effective and efficient teaching, conferences and networking, and work/life balance. Reimbursement for one meal will be provided during the workshop.

The workshop is a project generated by the APSA Presidential Task Force on Women’s Advancement in the Profession, appointed by APSA President Kathy Thelen. The workshop is organized by Tali Mendelberg (Princeton University) and funded by the National Science Foundation and the American Political Science Association. One of the purposes of the workshop is generalizable research, to evaluate the effects of mentoring. To that end, attendees will be randomly selected from the pool of eligible applicants.
