Theme Panel: 20 Years after Welfare Reform

Thu, September 1, 8:00 to 9:30am

On August 22, 1996, President Clinton signed the historic welfare reform bill into law. For 20 years, people have debated the wisdom of that act and the politics surrounding it. While initially declared a success during the first decade, the criticisms have been piling up in the second. A panel of renown experts will assess the law and its effects on access to assistance, work effort, poverty, homelessness and other critical issues. Suggestions what should be done going forward will be a featured part of the discussion.
